Some random pictures from the build....

Got the bike back at home now, some space to lay things out, wiring is my issue so will plod through and see what I can do with it. Lots of small jobs ahead...

Made a little progress in the last few weeks but nothing complete... wires hanging out all over the place...
I now have the tins primed (no it’s not going to be white, that’s just primer) looks heaps better with some colour....
Still a little weld to do here'n there, chain guard, lid for electric box etc...
Also built a box to put the bike on, makes it easier to work on for sure, no back issues...

Wires everywhere, have all the stainless and some alloy off for polishing, internal wired the bars and sunk in some buttons for a minimal look, will find a particular master cylinder to replace the HD one but until then will grind off the flange and tidy up what I have...

ride pics

Two different styles, two different bikes, same sort of weather, same route

my old beemer

my sporty

starting to get the look going...

Quite a bit of progress, took place once the whole thing was put back together in this set of pictures...

So, the pics to update progress...

Coils being moved, guard being mounted, headlight, electrics, number plate bracket, oil feed bungs, fuel tank mods (gas filler & tap)chain conversion done, bla bla bal....

Old frame cut off caps put on and have cut an angle and filled swing arm holes

Rear tank bung and Biltwell seat mount tab

In putting bike back together, added the 21", polished up triple clamps (removed the eyebrow fittings) and fitted the bates look headlight, now that’s a clean front end...

Tank sorted; nice...

Got a little too much drop on the tap but still allot of clearance, so all good!

Looking at the bike together the Mrs suggested the raw steel look....but I do like paint...

after this i made some space in the garage to lay things out, wiring is my issue so will plod through and see what I can do with it. Lots of small jobs ahead from this point

Gaston Rahier

It must have been about 1975?

Dad asked what I wanted to do for one of my birthdays, I was mad on motorcycles, I really wanted to see the hyped up motocross that had been bantered about Christchurch at the time, so some friends and me all jammed into the car and out to Banks Peninsula.

It was a cool spot out in the middle of nowhere... people, tents and flags, the sweet smell of 2 stroke in the air...

The main push in advertising for the event was Gaston Rahier... He was three time FIM World Champion in the 125cc division, titles in 1975, 1976 and 1977. Later he went on to race in and win the famous Paris-Dakar rally with BMW motorcycles, in 1984 and 1985, I never got near him!

Pretty sure Gaston was brought out to NZ by the Suzuki factory itself, he was accompanied by another Suzuki sponsored rider. Pretty sure Tommy’s Suzuki was involved, I scored some posters and from then all us local boys all wanted motocross bikes...

Gaston Rahier 1947 – 2005

The poster from my day at the motocross... with a Tommy’s stamp in the corner.

Love the head gear!

Another one from the past

This is a Yamaha TR1 which is a euro version of the vx1000 chopper style we have had available here in NZ, I decided to purchased it off the internet from down the island and ended up with 2 after someone gave me a heads up, so built one good one from the two, these are still quite well followed in Europe, see, www.tr1.de

The whole build incorporated everything, I mean everything was pulled apart and rebuilt, everything!
All the switch blocks, bars instruments, front end and engine was painted with silver spray can enamel paint...

This repaint... I did with rattle cans...

Drilled the front discs, and did allot of things that would normally go un noticed...
Mate polished up all the alloy and I powder coated all the black...

Got pulled up on one of our back roads on this, hitting the brakes real hard with on coming officer, hitting his lights, got me 186Km/hr (having braked) showed me the read out... Cost me that did (it was a while ago now)

Tacked up

Ok, an update on the Sporty didn’t get much done this weekend, but a little more to bring you up to speed...

I got hold of a 21” rim and laced it up to a single sporty hub new spokes and a 21 x 3.0 Avon Speedmaster tyre that replaces a 19” with twin disc.

The Alien tank had the fuel filler off to the side and two bungs at the rear, chopped all those and attached new filler and tap extension off the rear, much better

Using the swing arm tacked up all the rear stays in 1 1/4" tube and set out seat bungs, the rear guard and looking to mount the oil tank and battery box...

this a full garage built hardtail not a weld on attachment...

at some point i will put up a list of things done.

Distracted..

Well, not much done on the Sporty, spent quite a few hours helping with son's Mini project over the weekend... bleed brakes and clutch and he concentrated on some wiring that had been butchered by someone previous, now it all works..
It’s a 1000 but he has a 1275 to go in at a later date.
